Florida licenses assisted living facilities (ALFs) through the state's Agency for Health Care Administration, and licenses come in a few tiers depending on the level of care a community is authorized to provide — standard, limited nursing, extended congregate care, and limited mental health, among others. It's worth asking directly which license type a community holds and what that means for the level of care they can legally provide as needs increase.

Cost varies significantly by region — coastal metro areas like Naples, Fort Lauderdale, and Sarasota tend to run higher than inland or northern parts of the state, and communities near major hospital systems often command a premium for proximity to specialist care.

Florida's climate and lifestyle also mean many communities lean into outdoor amenities — pools, walking paths, and proximity to golf — as a genuine quality-of-life factor, not just marketing. If hurricane season is a concern, it's reasonable to ask any community directly about their emergency preparedness plan, backup power, and evacuation procedures.
